JodiFIT March 2019 Member of the Month - Gina Wells
What brought you to Jodifit & why?
Last summer, my sister-in-law was visiting from California and told me about BODYPUMP classes and how they improved her muscle tone. Jodi was running a promotion, so she asked me sign up with her while she was in town. I had a ton of scheduling reasons why I couldn’t commit, but I thought it would be fun to spend time with her and try something new to ratchet up my exercise game. My twins are grown and out of the house, so I have more time for myself (and fewer excuses). To be honest, I didn’t think I’d continue after she left town, but I really enjoyed the classes. The music is a big part of Joditfit – the tempo propels you through the workout. The small studio and accessible, non-judgmental atmosphere reminded me of the “aerobics” classes I took when my boys were young. I didn’t feel self-conscious there and was having fun.
What’s changed in your life since coming?
Honestly, it’s upgraded my life great deal. I’m excited to get out of bed, get my youngest son, who is disabled, off to school, and start my day with exercise several days a week before heading to work. It’s revolutionary, really, because now I prioritize working out. I get annoyed if I can’t attend a few days a week. My energy level has gone haywire and getting into bed at the end of the day has never felt better! I do have a good deal of stress in my life related to raising a child with a profound disability. Jodifit classes allow me do something for myself, reduce my anxiety, boost my mood, and generally shake my brains out a bit. My husband and I recently moved one of our older sons into a new apartment from a third floor walk-up. They were complaining about being sore from all the lifting and stairs and I couldn’t resist chiming in that I was just fine! Some eye rolling ensued, they are probably tired of my talking about Jodifit!
What do you like best about Jodifit?
I am always singing Jodifit’s praises because it’s unintimidating, there is a lovely, welcoming sense of community at the studio. We’re all just a group of gals trying to be our best selves and improve our health. It fosters a very encouraging culture and the environment has a chic, almost calming, reassuring aesthetic. It feels like you are treating yourself well when you go to class, as opposed to trudging to the judgy gym. Jodifit has encouraging, empowering and educated instructors who truly care about fitness and helping others improve their health. Plus, I am in and out the door – so easy for me!
What’s your favorite class and why?
I enjoy the different classes for different reasons. The barre class feels kind of zen to me, and I like the way it challenges you to sculpt your muscles – I’m always sore the following day. BODYPUMP feels empowering and exhilarating (“you’re stronger than you think!) and we all plow through those last few squats together. CXWORX is great for your core – hovering is a revelation!
